Reginald Weaver

Reginald L. Weaver

Our beloved Reginald Lee Weaver is a former president of the National Education Association (NEA), serving from 2002 - 2008. During his term, NEA's membership increased from 2.6 million to 3.2 millions members, making it the world's largest democratic, deliberative body. He is the recipient of three honorary doctorates recognizing his “world-class leadership in the efforts to educate children,” and is recognized as having a critical voice on all matters pertaining to public education.

"I am honored that the National Education Association’s (NEA) Black Caucus has established a leadership scholarship in my name. As a former elected leader at the local, state and national levels of the NEA, I recognize there is a critical need to create pathways to leadership for our members of color. My professional goals and efforts continually align with the NEA Black Caucus in advocating for, and supporting meaningful endeavors that expand opportunities for cultural diversity in elected leadership at all levels of our Association. While we have had successes in the past with fostering leadership development through the former Minority Leadership Training Program (MLTP), I am confident that the foundational philosophy of the MLTP will be a catalyst for the Reg Weaver Leadership Scholarship to advance greater diversity and inclusion in leadership and throughout the NEA."
